Spring in Wine Country (Saturday)

COST: $99.00

The Place

The Napa-Sonoma Wine Country is a region of great variety. From dramatic coastlines, to sensuous hills and deep forests of oaks and redwoods, not to mention vineyards in the valleys, hills, and mountainsides. This workshop will primarily focus on the vineyards, but we may also photograph wineries and farm buildings as well. Shooting will take place close to one region to maximize picture-taking time and minimize travel time.

Our Focus

We will primarily focus on the greenery that appears at this time of year, we may also photograph the vine supports, and surrounding natural landscape such as the woods, hills and wetlands found in this region. The weather can range from a sunny cloudless day to occasional rain this time of year. We will mostly photograph near our vehicles and drive on good roads.

This particular workshop will focus on how to photograph in hazy light/harsh light. In addition, we will focus on how to capture shadow detail in high contrast scenes without losing detail in highlights. If there are overcast conditions, we will go over the proper exposure settings to get vibrant pictures.

General Topics that will be Covered

We will focus on building up your technical foundation, including:

  1. Setting color and image quality settings for best results
  2. Focusing, depth of field, and image sharpness
  3. Getting the right exposure through the use of histograms
  4. Learning how to use exposure compensation to get better results
  5. How to identify strong compositions
  6. How to improve contrast and clarity in difficult lighting
  7. And, the location of several beautiful places to photograph
