This is the largest national park outside Alaska. This tour will be as efficient as possible in minimizing driving and maximizing shooting. We will later work our way up Highway 395 and photograph the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, other photographic destinations include Mono Lake and the June Lake Loop. On our last day we may photograph around Lake Tahoe on our way back home. The timing, and whether we make it to all the destinations will be dependent upon weather conditions. The itinerary can change at any time due to weather. We will pursue the best photographic opportunities at any particular time, while keeping as safe (and warm) as possible.
In addition to sand dunes at sunrise and sunset, we will try to visit Artist's Palette, Zabriskie Point, Dante's View, and Mosaic Canyon, as well as the ghost town of Rhyolite, the Ubehebe Crater and Scotty's Castle. There will be a variety of subjects, topography, and weather.
The weather will be pleasant the first few days, but then it will be very cold once we go along the Sierras. We will discuss ways to keep your gear operating smoothly in harsh winter conditions.
Using histograms, the workshop will focus on how to photograph in harsh light, capturing detail in both the light and dark areas of a scene. If it is overcast, we will go over the settings needed to get vibrant pictures.
