Two Day Workshops
Sometimes the places we want to photograph are pretty far away, or we just need to spend a few days doing only photography. Weekend workshops are great for that.
Weekend workshops can take place anywhere in Northern California. Typically the driving time to our destination is between 2 and 6 hours, and routes are chosen so that we can photograph interesting things enroute. We will typically leave in the early to mid-afternoon on a Friday (if the workshop takes place on a weekend).
The workshop officially begins Friday evening, when we meet up as a group for the first time (if you are traveling to our destination independently). Frequently we meet over dinner and a shooting plan is made for the next day, based on the latest weather forecast. Occasionally we may photograph the sunset or something else on Friday evening if there is a photographic opportunity.
Depending on the weather, we may try to get up before dawn on Saturday or Sunday to photograph the sunrise. If that is not useful due to weather conditions, then we get up at a reasonable hour. We will take a break on Saturday when the light is bad. If the light continues to be good all day, we will shoot all day. In any case, we will meet up again in the evening if we took a break at mid-day.
On Saturday evening or Sunday morning, there will be a critique of some of the images you took during the workshop. This will be done as a group and led by Lance. This gives you feedback on how your images are turning out, while you are creating them. This is often the favorite part of the workshop for most attendees. After the critique, we will photograph on Sunday morning. Around mid-day, the workshop will officially end, but you can continue to photograph with Lance while he remains on site, as well as on the way back to Petaluma.
Ideal Places at the Ideal Time
Weekend workshops take place at the best time of year for photographing a particular region, no compromises in this area.
You choose your own lodging (with suggestions by Lance), so the outing can be as luxurious or inexpensive as you wish.

Practice Makes Perfect
By photographing for hours on end, your gear and photographic techniques will become second-nature to you, allowing you to concentrate on creating strong images, and not on your camera gear.
Know Where to Go
As with all workshops, you will receive a detailed map telling you exactly where all the places were that we visited. Allowing you to go back at your own pace and photograph these spots again.
